The federal government of Nigeria has debunked the rumours of plan to remove fuel subsidy.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has advised Nigeria government to remove the subsidy on fuel.
This has caused lots of panic, especially with an earlier report credited to a top government official that the subsidy will be gradually removed.
But according to the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, there is no immediate plan to remove fuel subsidy.
This was made known during a press briefing on Sunday, which also has in attendance, Minister of National Planning, Sen. Udoma Udoma and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele who jointly addressed the on-going IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington DC.
According to Ahmed, “There is no imminent plan to remove fuel subsidy.”
