The immediate past governor of Kano State and current Senator representing Kano Central, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has admitted to being in the know of the alleged bribery video of the current governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, before they were published.
The senator who made this known on a live radio programme on Aminchi FM in Kano, however, said he pleaded with the Publisher of the online newspaper, Daily Nigerian, which released the video, not to publish, but noted that they refused to heed his plea.
“I was aware of the video clips before they were released to the public and I pleaded that they should not be released, but they didn’t listen to me.
“I am not happy that the video clips were made public because it is an embarrassment to the state and its people, including myself,” Kwankwaso said.
Online newspaper, Daily Nigerian, had in an article accused Governor Ganduje of collecting kick backs in dollars from contractors at different times to the tune of $5 million, an allegation which the governor debunked.
The online publisher thereafter started releasing videos, which were said to be record in 2017, from October this year.
The Kano State House of Assembly had set up an investigative committee to probe the allegation.
While the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Nigeria paper, Jafar Jafar, had testified against the governor on invitation by the Assembly, the governor, on his part, sent a representative to deny the allegation.
Ganduje has also gone ahead to get a court injunction stopping the House of Assembly Committee from further probing the case.
He has also sued the online paper for N3 billion.
