The senate on Tuesday refused to confirm the nomination of the anti-graft bodies board members sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari, reason being that the South East and South South region were left out of the appointment.
This has drawn a lot of reactions from many people. Prominent among those who have expressly reacted to it are Senators Shehu Sani and Ben Murray-Bruce.
Shehu Sani said: “Confirming the nominees of Mr President to the anti corruption bodies is urgent and necessary; But its unfair to do so in view of the fact that some sections of the country are omitted.I was one of those who unambiguously demanded that the issues raised be addressed before confirmation.”
On his part, Ben Bruce expressed his disappointment. “Even in an election year the President doesn’t want to stop the nepotism that has become part and parcel of his administration. How can you send EFCC nominees to the Senate and exclude parts of Nigeria? If you did 97% versus 5% for 3 years, should you still do it in your 4th?”
